How to assemble and use the Fifty5 Rivers Cold Coffee Nitro Keg System

Follow these steps to get your first batch of Nitro Cold Brew Coffee at Home.

Steps to assemble your Fifty5 Rivers Cold Brew Coffee Nitro Keg System

Before you begin

Before first use of the Fifty5 Rivers Cold Brew 2L Nitro Cold Brew Keg System
Please clean the mini keg, cap, spear body, faucet and cold brew hose with warm water and mild soap.

Step 1

Pour a maximum of 1.5 L of ready to drink cold brew coffee in the mini keg.

Notes: Total liquid volume is 60 – 70% of keg capacity. Total keg capacity is 2 L leaving 1.2 L to 1.5 L for the cold brew coffee. Space is needed to allow for the N2 or N2O gas injection.

Step 2

Cut cold brew coffee hose according to keg height (9 inches is recommended).

Notes: If hose is too short, cold brew coffee will not be fully dispensed. If the cold brew coffee hose is too long it may crimp and not dispense correctly.

Step 3

Push cut cold brew coffee hose onto spear bottom.

Step 4

Screw spear assembly onto mini keg.

Step 5

Screw black plastic tap handle onto faucet.

Step 6

Install faucet into spear, make sure the connection proper and tight. Otherwise it will leak.

Step 7

Place 8 g nonthreaded N2 or N2O cartridge into black cartridge holder.

Step 8

Connect the cartridge holder to the spear by screwing into the appropriate location. Listen for a “whistle”, this indicates the cartridge has been pierced and the gas has been injected into the cold brew coffee. Be sure to continue tightening the holder so there are no leaks.

Step 9

Shake the mini keg, this will help mix the cold brew coffee and the gas. After shaking place mini keg into refrigerator for a minimum of one hour.

Step 10

Remove the mini keg system from refrigerator and place on a stable surface, place glass to the nozzle and then pull the handle to the front slowly.

Step 11

Enjoy your nitro cold brew coffee.

Notes: When the last of the cold brew coffee is gone from the mini keg, please pull the faucet handle forward to completely remove the gas before unscrewing the spear assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions about the cold brew coffee nitro keg

What is the best way to clean my cold brew coffee nitro keg?

1. Rinse the cold brew hose with hot water.
2. Fill the mini keg with hot water and dump – repeat 3 times.
3. Fill the mini keg with hot water and 1 tablespoon of baking soda, assemble system.
4. Shake until water runs from the faucet, and leave the mixture set for 10 minutes.
5. Dis-assemble entire system and wash with hot water and mild soap.
Notes: Make sure to open faucet and run hot water with mild soap through the faucet. Clean the mini keg and faucet with the appropriate brush.
6. Rinse the system with warm water.
7. Drain mini keg upside down (especially if air drying).

What are some care tips for my cold brew coffee nitro keg?

Do not place cap on mini keg, until mini keg is completely dry
Do not microwave or freeze
Never place in a dishwasher
Not designed for hot liquids, nonfood, caustic, or highly acidic materials
Not guaranteed against leakage from above average tap pressure
Use for conditioning or fermenting at your own risk (not recommended)
Caution choke hazard: keep silicone seals and cap away from children

Troubleshooting: The faucet is leaking.

Try tightening the 4 hole nut on cross bar spear.

Try tightening the nut under the spear body

Troubleshooting: There is no foaming head, no cascade of the cold brew coffee.

There could be too much cold brew, a maximum of 1.5 L

Troubleshooting: The gas is leaking when rotating the cartridge holder.

A Possible solution: Under normal circumstances, a little gas will escape from the hole in the bottom of the cartridge holder. As the cartridge holder is being tightened, upon hearing the “whistle”, tighten quickly to decrease the amount of gas escaping.

Another possible solution: The issue could be the cartridge is the incorrect size. The neck length can be a factor as well. Please use known name brand whipped cream chargers.
