James Mowery serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at SMB Franchise Advisors, bringing over 19 years of comprehensive experience in franchising as a franchisor, franchisee, and supplier. He has been a Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) since 2007 and specializes in guiding startups, business expansions, and turnaround initiatives within the franchise industry.
In his role as CTO, James leverages his extensive technology background and project management expertise to support SMB Franchise Advisors’ clients in developing and implementing effective technological strategies. His diverse industry experience includes sectors such as service, small to medium business consulting, medical and health, manufacturing, and the Department of Defense. James works with clients on developing the business aspects of their Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).
Before joining SMB Franchise Advisors, James held several key positions:

- President of Fetch! Pet Care, Inc.: He led the company in Dayton, Ohio, from February 2017 till March of 2020, after serving as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since March 2014.
- Director of Information Technology and Process Improvement at DNA Diagnostics Center: From January 2012 to January 2014, he focused on enhancing IT infrastructure and optimizing processes.
- Chief Information Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and President of a nationwide tax franchise: Between March 2006 and March 2010, he played a pivotal role in the franchise’s operations and strategic direction.
- President and Partner of a Pet Butler franchise in Dayton, Ohio: From September 2007 to June 2016, he managed and expanded the franchise’s operations.
James holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Computer Information Systems and has been a certified Project Management Professional since 2010. He is passionate about mentoring others in the franchising industry and developing leadership skills in aspiring entrepreneurs.
In addition to his professional roles, James serves on the International Franchise Associations (IFA) Membership Committee (member of Franchise Business Network Task Force), as well as, a Member at Large on the IFA Foundation. In the past he as served in the following capacities:
- Member of the IFA Education Advisory Group
- Past Chair of IFA Education Advisory Board
- Past Chair of the ICFE Board of Governors (Franchise Industry)
