James Mowery, CFE, is a seasoned professional with over 19 years of experience in franchising, serving as a franchisor, franchisee, and supplier. Since 2007, he has been a Certified Franchise Executive, specializing in guiding startups, business expansions, and turnaround initiatives within the franchise industry. His extensive technology background and project management expertise have been pivotal in his career. In 2010, James earned his Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute and holds a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Computer Information Systems. Throughout his career, he has worked across various sectors, including the service industry, small to medium business consulting, medical and health, manufacturing, and the Department of Defense. Currently, James serves as the Chief Technology Officer at SMB Franchise Advisors, where he leverages his diverse experience to assist clients in achieving their business objectives.
In 2018, James co-founded Fifty5 Rivers Cold Brew, an innovative venture that began as an online business and has since expanded to a brick-and-mortar location in Fairborn, Ohio. The company specializes in crafted cold brew coffee and tea, offering ready-to-drink beverages in various sizes. Under James’s leadership, Fifty5 Rivers Cold Brew has grown to include mobile units, known as “The BARge,” bringing their unique cold brew offerings to events and festivals. The company is also committed to fostering entrepreneurship and leadership among young adults, reflecting James’s passion for mentoring the next generation of business leaders.
Before his current roles, James was the President of Fetch! Pet Care, Inc. in Dayton, Ohio, from February 2017 till March 2020. Prior to that, he served as the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the company from March 2014 to February 2017. His previous positions include Director of Information Technology and Process Improvement at DNA Diagnostics Center in Fairfield, Ohio, from January 2012 to January 2014, and roles as Chief Information Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and President of a nationwide tax franchise from March 2006 to March 2010. Additionally, he was President and Partner of a Pet Butler franchise in Dayton, Ohio, from September 2007 to June 2016.

James Mowery is deeply involved in the franchising community, currently serving as a Member-at-Large on the International Franchise Association (IFA) Foundation Board of Trustees. He is also a member of the IFA’s Membership Committee and serves on the Franchise Business Network Task Force. Previously, James has held significant leadership roles, including Past Chair of the IFA Education Advisory Board and Past Chair of the Institute of Certified Franchise Executives Board of Governors., as well as a member of the Education Advisory Group. His dedication to mentoring underscores his commitment to fostering leadership and entrepreneurial skills in the next generation. In addition to his franchising endeavors, James Mowery has been deeply involved in mentoring within the business community, contributing his expertise to programs such as PMI Dayton and Launch Dayton.
